In recent times, the definition of status epilepticus (SE) has changed and relies heavily on the length of a seizure. The longer a seizure lasts, the less likely it will stop without medication. Very long seizures can increase the chance of death and it is therefore vital that nurses are able to identify long seizures early, so that treatment can commence early and outcomes can be improved.
