Asthma is a common chronic respiratory issue seen in children, however many children may be misdiagnosed as having asthma due to them having symptoms such as cough or wheeze. It is important that nurses understand the correct diagnosis, assessment and management of asthma. In order for families to manage their child’s asthma, they need to be given education around use of inhalers, using a spacer and the Asthma Action Plan. Controlling a child’s asthma at home can mean less asthma attacks, lessen the need for emergency hospital visits and decrease parental distress.
The purpose of this webinar is to provide nurses with knowledge around asthma diagnosis and treatment, so that they can empower families with the knowledge they need to help manage their child’s asthma.
This webinar was recorded on 18th July 2019 and is due for review from 18th July 2021.
